  • Rangiātea is both a place in Hawaiki  and the name of the house given to whatukura, the male atua.
  • Niho Taniwha is the pattern that denotes storytelling and mythology
  • Rau Kumara represents manaakitanga and the caretaking of others.
  • Wāhi Rua is symbolic of when two lines have been separated by space, or time, or both.
  • Whakatūtū represents standing up for what you believe in
  • Kōwhiti Whakapae is symbolic of harvesting and food production

The red line running through each papa represents Te Wheiao, the place between the world of darkness and the world of light.
