The first woman Hineahuone was shaped with earth at Kurawaka, the womb of Papatūānuku.


The Tūhua (obsidian) holds the mauri of this exhibition and was an important stone in traditional life. Flaked tūhua was used in both raranga (weaving) and whakairo (carving) as cutting tools.
